An interview with UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) Programme Coordinator, Werner Mauch, in which he addresses the critical importance of literacy, is available to read in English.

In the interview, with Austrian newspaper, Der Standard, Mr Mauch talked about literacy and adult learning and education through the lens of lifelong learning

He also discussed UNESCO’s programme of activities to advance youth and adult literacy, and its challenges, touching on the importance of digital learning as an innovative way of increasing access to education and learning.

The interview took place at the launch of Austria Lifelong Learning Strategy 2030, in Sankt Pölten, the capital of Niederösterreich (Lower Austria), on 23 September 2016.
