Just Published: IRE special issue on Nordic-Baltic cooperation in the field of adult education 1991–2004

26 July 2018

The August issue of the International Review of Education – Journal of Lifelong Learning (IRE) explores the development of adult education in the Baltic states of Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia between gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and their accession to the European Union in 2004.

Following independence, the Nordic countries were the first to share ideas and expertise on adult education with the Baltic states. This special issue reflects on and evaluates the impact of Nordic-Baltic cooperation from the early 1990s and explores its impact on recent developments in Baltic adult education. Though focused on a relatively small region, this issue documents the importance of international support and cooperation in adult education policy and practice, particularly for nations emerging from political and economic upheaval.
