The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Lifelong Learning (SEAMEO – CELLL), in cooperation with the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), will hold an expert meeting in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam on 4 and 5 October, 2016. With reference to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the meeting is entitled ‘Towards an ASEAN Lifelong Learning Agenda’. This meeting will bring together SEAMEO CELLL Governing Board Members, national experts and stakeholders from eleven countries in Southeast Asia who are part of a collaborative regional project carrying the same title as the meeting. These participants will come together to reflect on the inclusion of a lifelong learning perspective into national educational policies. In particular, they will:
- review national best practices and underlying policies through country presentations and synthesis reports;
- discuss lessons learned and put forth recommendations;
- introduce SEAMEO CELLL’s plan for a regional online portal for knowledge sharing and learning; and
- strengthen regional collaborative activities to promote lifelong learning.
The aim of both the meeting and the project is to effect positive changes in the region towards inclusive, gender-responsive lifelong learning policies and programmes.
