The IDEAL project, funded by the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union, seeks to examine how higher education institutions can and do contribute to adult learning by way of distance education.
IDEAL’s three main project partners, the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE), the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), and StudyPortals (SP), met on 8 to 10 September in Oslo, Norway, to assess progress and discuss future activities.
During the meeting, dissemination activities for 2015 where discussed: two capacity-building workshops and a policy forum, which will be organized alongside other conferences. The aim of the capacity-building workshops is to make results of the project available to practitioners, while the policy forum will discuss recommendations for policy-making in view of increasing participation in distance education in European countries.
IDEAL has set out to gain a better understanding of how distance education is being offered by higher education institutions and to examine how higher education institutions can contribute to adult learning by way of distance education.
The IDEAL project has launched the first of the three study reports on the impact of distance education on adult learning. The released report is the first of three independent, yet complementary research components of the IDEAL projects available for download here.
