With 175 students in adult education, the Institute of Adult Education at the Faculty of Education and Human Resources Development of the University of Pécs, Hungary, is the largest Institute of adult education in Europe.

The Institute, in partnership with UIL, held a symposium on “The Learning Age” on 20 June 2013, in Pecs. In his opening presentation, “The Learning Society – the Learning Person”,  UIL Director Arne Carlsen positioned adult education within lifelong learning and used a sociological as well as a psychological approach to examine the wider benefits of learning.

An agreement was signed between UNESCO, represented by UIL, and the Faculty  regarding joint research projects within the CONFINTEA VI follow-up process, and on library co-operation.

In addition, it was agreed that the University of Pécs will fund a scholarship, allowing two researchers per year to visit UIL for one month.
