
The UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning provides technical assistance to Member States in formulating their policies and strategies in literacy, non-formal education and adult education and in incorporating lifelong learning perspectives into their educational reforms. UIL’s activities relating to capacity-building centre on reinforcing national capacities to develop and implement appropriate policies and programmes, as well as to scale up effective and innovative practices. At the same time, it works to develop frameworks, guidelines, instruments and (online) tools to improve the quality and relevance of adult learning. These include measures to improve curricula, learning materials and training for personnel, and to develop in-built monitoring and evaluation systems. Capacity development in Africa is a priority focus.
