Activating citizens of all ages through learning
The city of Anadia is part of the intermunicipal community of Aveiro in central Portugal. It is famous for its outstanding wines and long agricultural and viticultural tradition.
Vision and motivation
Anadia is a Learning City that embraces the concept of education through life by promoting educational and social policies supported by a broad set of goals and programmes. We strive to achieve and share our successes, working for and with the people.
Challenges and goals
Almost 50 per cent of the city’s population is aged between 25 and 64 years, followed by the older population, which plays a leading role in the community. This has led us to conclude that learning throughout life is a strategy that increasingly needs to be developed and implemented.
Plan and implementation
Anadia intends to continue developing the projects that it has implemented thus far. ‘From 8 to 80, everybody moves’ provides opportunities for people of all ages to exercise. ‘Reading has no age’ promotes reading among senior citizens. ‘To be + in Anadia’ aims to develop disadvantaged children’s social, personal and academic skills. A number of school enrichment activities have been introduced, including ‘Once Upon a Story’, which improves young children’s reading skills, and ‘Learn while you play’, which encourages children to engage in healthy activities during their free time. The city’s University of the Third Age (Universidade Sénior Curia), meanwhile, organizes a range of activities aimed at people aged over 50.
The municipality of Anadia intends to do more and better, to receive and contribute, to share and learn, to accompany and inspire, placing citizens at the centre of its priorities.
