A sustainable learning community for everyone
As a district of Seoul, Eunpyeong-gu aims for responsible wealth and a life led in harmony with nature. It promotes both urban culture and a clean environment.
Vision and motivation
Eunpyeong-gu pursues a sustainable future and a people-centred community. Since being selected as a lifelong learning city by the government in 2012, the city has built a lifelong learning ecosystem for all that brings together its local ecology, history, cultural resources and educational infrastructure.
Challenges and goals
The challenge for Eunpyeong as a Learning City is to ensure ‘sustainable regional innovation through collaborative governance'. We will encourage the participation of citizens across various generations and create an innovative model with the potential to grow and foster civil and public cooperation in areas such as municipal communities, social and economic matters, and welfare.
Plan and implementation
Eunpyeong-gu endeavours to establish sustainable lifelong learning communities by encouraging cooperation and solidarity among various community stakeholders. In particular, the city runs ‘Hidden Master Classes’, the ‘People’s University’, the ‘School of Parents’, and the ‘4050 Generation Project’ in order to enable people to share their knowledge and experiences in public, and to foster community learning. Eunpyeong-gu is also working to increase participation rates in learning activities and to foster a culture of learning by supporting literacy initiatives and study circles.
The increasingly active lives our citizens lead make lifelong learning more important than ever. As a Learning City, Eunpyeong will fully support all citizens seeking to broaden their knowledge and experience in order to lead better lives.
