Fuelled by multiculturalism
Escobedo is primarily an industrial and commercial city whose economy depends on the manufacturing industry. Its population includes people from other Mexican states and countries, and multiculturalism has fuelled the city’s urban and economic development.
Vision and Strategy
Our vision is to strengthen alliances with actors, both locally – in the state of Nuevo León – and internationally to offer a wider range of non-formal and cultural learning opportunities, and to continue to safeguard our traditions and culture. We aim to create an inclusive city that is in close contact with its citizens, understands their learning and training needs, and can provide them with the opportunities they need.
Policies, Plan and Implementation
Sustainability and health
- Public policies centre on sustainability and health. Examples include free vaccination teams located in various community centres, and low-cost programmes for dental care, hearing aids and orthopaedic appliances.
Equity and inclusion
- As regards social inclusion, a disability-specific directorate was created to offer workshops and various forms of therapy/treatment to citizens with disabilities. Moreover, courses on Mexican Sign Language are offered to citizens and public servants, and specific courses are available for people with Down syndrome.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
- Microcredit programmes have been developed for women entrepreneurs, microbusinesses, start-ups and inclusive businesses. To strengthen the connection between industry and citizenship, employment centres have been set up across the city to provide citizens with updated information on job vacancies at local companies.
Good practices
Families in Peace
- Some 4,000 families participated in this programme, which is designed to reduce violent attitudes and behaviour in the home. They participated in various activities at home, guided by videos via Facebook.
PACE (educational continuity programme)
- PACE aims to prevent school drop-outs by giving talks (mainly to parents) to promote self-employment, hosting manufacturing skills workshops, and providing advice on how to enrol in state programmes to complete primary and secondary education.
Escobedo is in a process of evolution, where one of the main axes is education for all. We know that, by acquiring knowledge, we share it with our sister cities that share our vision.
