Located on the historical Silk Road and with a history of 2,500 years of civilization, Hamedan’s economy is based on agriculture and exports, especially garlic and grapes. 

Vision and Strategy

As a sustainable green city, we believe that expanding the green economy with an emphasis on clean energy, waste management and public transport, is key to achieving SDGs 6 (clean water and sanitation), 8 (decent work and economic growth) and 11 (sustainable cities and communities). By joining the GNLC, we intend not only to promote sustainable development, but also to improve urban management, individual and social empowerment, economic development and prosperity. 

Policies, Plan and Implementation

Sustainability and health

  • In cooperation with the University of Medical Sciences and the Welfare Organization, Hamedan aims to achieve universal health coverage and provide easier access to quality health services. As regards environmental sustainability, the city advocates international cooperation to promote low-carbon economies and facilitate the development and transfer of relevant new technologies. 

Equity and inclusion

  • The city’s long-term objective is to provide citizens with resources to expand their awareness and knowledge of community issues, thereby fostering participation and social responsibility, and contributing towards the achievement of SDGs 4 (quality education) and 5 (gender equality). 

Decent work and entrepreneurship

  • The city supports home‐based businesses and entrepreneurs. Cultural centres and non-governmental organizations provide workshops, including: specialized skills training for start‐ups; business clinics; and programmes to facilitate employment.
