Advancing through becoming a Learning City

Suseong is a district of Daegu with excellent living and learning conditions: a flourishing culture, excellent educational opportunities, and beautiful surroundings.

Vision and Motivation

Suseong’s vision is to become Korea’s leading city in terms of educational opportunities. It aims to incorporate the Learning City concept into its policies, and to network with other cities as a member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, thereby improving its residents’ skills, fostering a strong sense of community, and developing the city in a sustainable way.

Challenges and Goals

Suseong recognizes that it faces a number of challenges relating to economic development and sustainability. The city has a further main goal: to become a safer city that fosters global talent and promotes knowledge and culture. It aims to become a vibrant city that prioritizes well-being and is populated by happy and hopeful citizens.

Plan and Implementation

Suseong has been a government-designated lifelong learning city since 2011. To put the Learning City concept into practice, Suseong has also joined the International Association of Educating Cities (IAEC). Moreover, the city is in the process of designing a range of education policies centred on issues of world citizenship.
