On 30 November 2021, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) will host a webinar, ‘How to bridge formal and non-formal: lifelong learning for individual, societal, and system level transformation’ as part of the fifth UNESCO Forum on Transformative Education for Sustainable Development, Global Citizenship, Health and Well-being.

The webinar will highlight the challenges to monitoring adult learning and education (ALE) and literacy data and provide an opportunity to develop recommendations to meet these challenges. In addition, it will inform participants about the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities and the centrality of urban areas for promoting lifelong learning. The GNLC member city of Cork, Ireland, will provide an account of its learning city strategy in this regard.

The UNESCO Forum on Transformative Education for Sustainable Development, Global Citizenship, Health and Well-being is a virtual event, taking place from 29 November to 1 December 2021. It is the only global platform led by UNESCO that provides a collective space for education stakeholders working towards the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goal Target 4.7, which calls for all learners to have the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development. The forum is co-organized by UNESCO and the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) and hosted by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.

Participation

The forum is an invitation-only event. UNESCO and APCEIU will mobilize UNESCO Member States and other stakeholders to recommend participants. Those who are interested in participating may also submit an expression of interest to the Forum Secretariat, at transformative-ed-forum2021@unesco.org.
