In the current context of increasing environmental vulnerability, persistent economic inequity and social fragmentation, education policy-makers and practitioners, youth leaders and sustainability activists are calling for new ways to equip learners with the skills they need to prosper in a volatile world.
‘Pluriversalism’ connects strongly with the UN Sustainable Development Goals in that it ‘recogniz[es] the diversity of people’s views on planetary well-being and their skills in protecting it’. Embracing a pluriversal approach has the potential to push back against inequalities and galvanize educators into adopting pedagogies that champion Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
To increase awareness about the concept of pluriversalism, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) and the Sustainable Futures Global Network will host a webinar, entitled ‘Pluriversal Literacies for Sustainable and Equitable Education’, on Friday, 31 March 2023, at 13:00 (CEST), wherein education stakeholders from policy, practice, research and academia will discuss how pluriversalism can be integrated into the way we think about, relate to, design and create our future world.
Discussions topics will cover three key areas: (1) insights and comparative analysis across research, policy and practice; (2) knowledge and experience sharing; and (3) the policy implications of implemented pluriversal literacies.
