As the international branch of the German Adult Education Association, dvv International focuses on advancing human development through cooperation in adult and youth education. It is active on a worldwide basis, cooperating with more than 200 partners in over 30 countries.

Highlighting their long-standing partnership, on 9 August 2013, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) welcomed the new Director of dvv International, Mr Anton Markmiller and the Deputy Director, Mr Uwe Gartenschlaeger, to the Institute. UIL Director, Mr Arne Carlsen, and Senior Programme Specialist Mr Jin Yang met Mr Markmiller and Mr Gartenschlaeger to discuss ongoing collaboration between the two institutes.

More concretely, dvv International will serve as a partner of the International Platform for Learning Cities (IPLC), by nominating a member to the Expert Group and mobilising cities to participate in the IPLC and the International Conference on Learning Cities (Beijing, 21-23 October 2013).

Additionally, dvv International and UIL will collaborate in assessing the role of lifelong learning in the post-2015 sustainable development agenda, launching the 2nd Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE) and organising a high level think tank meeting on lifelong learning.
