Around 580 participants came together at the 3rd Global Lifelong Learning Forum to discuss “Lifelong learning, Sustainable and Practical Strategy”. Organised by Ajou University, the forum was co-hosted by Gyeonggi-Do, GILL (Gyeonggi Do Provincial Institute for Lifelong Learning), and Siheung City in the Republic of Korea.
The biannual forum took place from 18 to 19 June 2015 and explored sustainable and practical strategies from different cases related to the growth and changes of lifelong learning in the five UNESCO regions.
In his video message, which was shown during the opening ceremony, Arne Carlsen, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, stressed the importance of lifelong learning for all as the key goal for the Education 2030 agenda. Representing UIL with a keynote speech, Raúl Valdés Cotera and Suehye Kim explained three concrete efforts towards operationalising lifelong learning: (1) Building learning cities; (2) Recognition, Validation and Accreditation (RVA) of the outcomes of non-formal and informal learning; and (3) Monitoring and Evaluation of lifelong learning. During a series of passionate and fruitful dialogue sessions, presenters and participants then shared experiences, agendas, successes and challenges in implementing lifelong learning and building learning cities worldwide.
As a sponsor of the Global Lifelong learning Forum, UIL highlighted the trend of lifelong learning in cities worldwide and provided a platform for exchange of good practice between different regions.
