The following document is part of a collection of papers that build on the UIL report Embracing a Culture of Lifelong Learning.
Walter Leal Filho’s paper presents lifelong learning as a tool to foster human and planetary sustainability. It introduces the practices that pose the biggest threat to people and the planet, and elaborates on different factors – such as the role of local and global citizenship for maintaining healthy ecosystems – needed to nurture global responsibility and solidarity. It concludes with the contribution of lifelong learning to intergenerational knowledge dissemination, the co-creation of regenerative cultures, and appropriate participation in living processes.
