Global LIFE Mid-term Evaluation Report now available in print (in English and French) with a preface by Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO

23 February 2012

The global mid-term evaluation report on UNESCO’s Literacy Initiative for Empowerment (LIFE, 2006-2015), produced by UIL, is now available in print in English and French. The report, entitled Looking Forward with LIFE, takes stock of the first five years of LIFE implementation and recommends strategies and action points to take the initiative further forward. It also provides a wealth of inspiring examples of how literacy has been advanced in countries where the literacy challenge has been most pronounced. The mid-term evaluation confirms the relevance of LIFE and added value it has brought to literacy development. Copies can be ordered from .

To enable a broad audience of stakeholders to capitalise on shared experience, knowledge and resources created in the LIFE mid-term evaluation process, UIL has made available online a LIFE Mid-term Evaluation Report Package. This package includes a flyer in Arabic, English, French and Portuguese, the global, regional and national reports as well as relevant literacy data.

It is hoped that these publications and resources will inform and support the literacy-related activities of different stakeholders to ensure accelerating progress during the remaining years of the LIFE initiative.
