The Republic of South Sudan discusses language-in-education policy

Research findings and trends in language-in-education policy-making and educational practice were discussed at a meeting of South Sudanese and international specialists and government representatives.

The conference, held in Juba from 4 to 7 March, was co-organised by the British Council, the Department for International Development (DfID) of the government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and by the Republic of South Sudan. It was attended by 100 national and international participants.

UIL shared its research on trends in mother-tongue and multilingual education and gave a keynote speech on “Why and how Africa should invest in African languages and multilingual education”. The conference identified a set of principles in language use for quality education and nation-building that are of relevance to the Republic of South Sudan. These outcomes will presented to the national government for further action.
