2 April 2012 marks the anniversary of UIL’s Effective Literacy Practices Database (LitBase), which was launched by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning as a comprehensive database on innovative and effective literacy programmes from all over the world. In the last three years, more than 100 case studies on literacy programmes from 65 countries have been published on LitBase.
LitBase serves more than 4,000 users each month. It has provided researchers, practitioners and the interested public with viable information on trends and effective practices in literacy. LitBase also contributes to the efforts of the United Nations Literacy Decade (UNLD) and the Literacy Initiative for Empowerment (LIFE) by supporting UNESCO Member States to improve their literacy policies and practices based on evidence.
We would also like to invite institutions and organisations that are not currently represented in the database to submit information on their literacy programmes in accordance with the guidelines presented on the website.
To get an overview of the wealth of knowledge and experience that LitBase offers, please visit the website and take a look for yourself!
