It was with great sadness that UIL learned of the unexpected death, on 11 April, of Dr. Adoum N'Gaba Waye, a long-term friend of the Institute. Dr. Adoum N'Gaba Waye was a passionate advocate for adult education, and the founder and coordinator of the Centre Régional de recherche écologique et de formation environnementale pour lutter contre la désertification (CREFELD), an adult environmental education centre in Chad. CREFELD started as a demonstration project on adult environmental education with African countries bordering Lake Chad who were facing the effects of desertification. As a follow-up activity to the Fifth International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA V, 1997) the project was developed and carried out in collaboration with the City of Hamburg and UIL.

May he rest in peace.
