
UIL is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Walter Hirche as the Institute’s new Chairman of the Governing Board as from 1 January 2015.
Mr Hirche held ministerial portfolios on three occasions in the German federal states of Lower Saxony and Brandenburg. He joined the German UNESCO Commission in 1969, served as its president between 2002 and 2014, and is currently the chairperson of its Education committee.
UIL’s Governing Board is composed of twelve experts in the field of education from different regions of the world and meets once a year to review the progress of the Institute’s work and plan future policy.
Mr Hirche was elected as chairman at the Governing Board meeting on February 2014, taking over from Jean-Marie Ahlin Byll-Cataria (Togo).
