A new exhibition of 22 laminated literacy posters from all over the world was officially launched at the JVA Münster prison in Germany on 23 May 2013. It is the result of a one-year cooperation between the librarians from UIL, the Bundesverband Alphabetisierung und Grundbildung e.V. (National Agency for Literacy) and the prison library of the JVA Münster on 23 May 2013.
The new exhibition, entitled Lesen verbindet: Alphabetisierung als Menschenrecht – Reading connects: Literacy as a human right, presents information in German and English on a variety of global topics related to literacy (health, political participation, gender etc.). It showcases the advocacy work of UNESCO and provides information on the past and current literacy situation in Germany.
The exhibition will be on display at the JVA Münster until 5 July 2013.
The Bundesverband Alphabetisierung is responsible for coordinating German requests to display the exhibition, while UIL will coordinate international requests.
