An emerging economic centre
Querétaro is an emerging economic centre with developing aeronautical and automotive industries, and a dual-education model to mitigate unemployment. Rapid urbanization has brought with it major challenges, however, such as social exclusion, vulnerability and the breakdown of social ties.
Vision and Strategy
Querétaro aims to be a city where individuals work collectively and learn from each other, and where knowledge ceases to be individual and becomes collective through lifelong learning. The city plans to achieve these objectives through the educational, economic and social integration of vulnerable groups, and the development of new collaborative capacities, competences and attitudes in people from all educational backgrounds and ages so that citizens assume their responsibility towards the sustainable development of the environment.
Policies, Plan and Implementation
Sustainability and health
- Querétaro promotes health and sustainability through the articulation and reinforcement of education strategies and programmes to change consumption habits, and by discouraging car use and promoting the adoption of alternative means of transport.
Equity and inclusion
- In the area of inclusion, the city supports the creation of new public and private learning spaces, an increase in the number and quality of community-based learning programmes to support disadvantaged learners, and social intervention actions in vulnerable areas to foster a culture of peace and coexistence.
Decent work and entrepreneurship
- The municipality promotes the strengthening of training offers to boost the entrepreneurial spirit of women and the youth population, as well as the recognition of the positive influence and unpaid work of women in society.
Good practices
Learning Laboratory
- A space for citizens to meet with different social agents, the Learning Laboratory aims to break down the barriers that prevent collaboration between people, organizations and government to build a more effective and sustainable society.
'With Them, We Make the Difference' programme
- Focused on the development of capacities for self-reliance and empowerment of women, acquiring skills in non-traditional sectors such as carpentry, mechanics and automotive.
Life and nature for urbanites
- A non-formal scheme to train young people between 12 and 29 years of age in permaculture construction and to provide the community with educational experiences that recognize the challenge of habitat destruction.
Multiple social agents, different perspectives and realities, but a collective objective: To permanently learn to coexist, collaborate and co-create the Querétaro we want.
