
BUNYAD, is an NGO working for the promotion of literacy and education, especially of young girls and adolescents, living in rural areas. BUNYAD is committed to EFA & SDG's as the first step to fight poverty. 1 million have been made literate via non-formal education, adult education, continuing education, CLC, formal education, mobile phone literacy etc. in 14 districts of Punjab, Pakistan. Documentation of every activity in the area of Education For All (EFA) is developed, collected and shared with the Government to evaluate their programmes and to put forward suggestions and recommendations in their policies and planning. Bunyad's activities have been recognised at national and international level, resulting in their being awarded various medals and prizes: Communications Medal, UNESCO, Paris, 1998 for innovative work in literacy; King Sejong Prize, UNESCO, Paris, 2002 for the best NGO for promotion of literacy; Presidential Award of Aziz-e-Fazilat for literacy promotion, Govt of Pakistan, Education Department, 1998; Best Provincial NGO Award, 2002, Punjab Commission for Literacy for EFA; Aziz-e-Fazilat Presidential Award; Special Award for Promotion of Literacy, 2001, Pakistan Literacy Commissioner; Best Coordination Award, UNICEF, for outstanding work in flood affected areas; Bunyad's outstanding work countering child labour has been recognised by the National Commission for Child Welfare and Development (NCCWD) and the Prime Minister of Pakistan gave a Leadership Award to Usman Bilal, one of the learners at Bunyad Hope Surgical Center Bagwal Awan Sialkot.
Bunyad's areas of specialisation are literacy, education, gender issues, child labour, health, lifelong learning, local resource mobilization, material development, microcrediting, and linkages with line departments of government and civil society organisations. Additionally, Bunyad is specialising in promoting literacy through the use of mobile phone technology in Pakistan.
