The overall purpose of the UIL RVA programme is to promote a society offering lifelong learning for all by emphasising the importance of building bridges between formal, non-formal and informal learning. More specifically, the aim of the programme is to build capacities in Member States by:
- Conducting and synthesising research, disseminating best practice, and facilitating studies on systems, mechanisms, tools and instruments on an international scale;
- Promoting peer group activities through North-South-South policy dialogues;
- Strengthening cooperation and knowledge partnerships between experts from various international organisations, and different parts of UNESCO, as well as key stakeholders in different regions:
- Developing quality assurance principles and Guidelines for the implementation of RVA processes;Creating awareness of the benefits of RVA;
- Integrating RVA into broader reform processes of lifelong learning strategies and National Qualifications Frameworks.
