Renovation of UIL premises

17 January 2012

UIL has its premises in the Albert Ballin Villa, in Hamburg’s Pöseldorf district. Albert Ballin, who was Director-General of HAPAG, then the world’s largest shipping company, commissioned the construction of the villa in 1908. The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg now owns the Villa, and has developed, in close cooperation with Hamburg Heritage, a concept to renovate the basement and the interior of the building, while reinstating and preserving many of its historic features. A terrace with garden access and reception facilities for participants in international seminars and meetings will be constructed before April 2012. The new facilities will be opened during the ceremonies in connection with the 60th anniversary of UIL in Hamburg on 24 May 2012.
