Research

UIL’s research is action-oriented and policy-driven and supports advocacy and capacity-building activities. It is undertaken in collaboration with specialised research institutions around the world. UIL collates, analyses and disseminates examples of effective literacy practice. It furthermore analyses links between formal and non-formal education, covering aspects such as recognition, validation and accreditation, as well as various approaches to intergenerational learning. Research is also conducted to measure learning achievements more accurately and to monitor progress in literacy and adult education against a set of key indicators. A Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE) is published at regular intervals. Stakeholders have access to research findings for policy formulation through UIL’s publications and online resources.
