Strategies and best practice in UNESCOs Capacity Development for EFA Programmes

12 June 2013

22 national coordinators of the Capacity Development for Education for All (CapEFA) programme in Sub-Saharan Africa, the Arab Region, Asia and the Pacific, and the Caribbean took stock of work so far in a meeting at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris from 10–12 June. The meeting, which was organized by the CapEFA Team from HQ, was also attended by staff members from the UNESCO Education Sector, the UNESCO International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP), the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (IICBA), and the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL).

Participants analysed specific country programmes in relation to sector-wide policy and planning, literacy and non-formal education, teacher training, and technical and vocational education and training. The event led to a number of follow-up actions. The CapEFA programme is a strong example of UNESCO’s impact in education. UIL is involved in nine of thirteen programmes within CapEFA.
