Trained educators are key to the successful implementation of family and intergenerational literacy and learning (FILL) programmes. Educators must have a diverse set of skills and knowledge to effectively facilitate learning among learners of different age groups, whether adults, youth or children, and learners with diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
To further strengthen the capacities of FILL facilitators or educators, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and the Commonwealth of Learning are launching a second online course. It follows the successful launch of the first self-paced, self-directed online course on Family Learning and Indigenous Knowledges in June 2022.
Through this course, facilitators of family and intergenerational learning programmes will:
- have a better understanding of adult and child learning theories;
- identify different activities and materials for family reading, writing, numeracy and other learning areas;
- recognize diverse linguistic and cultural contexts of families and capitalize on the existing learning practices;
- identify different opportunities for further professional development.
The course is designed for education professionals working in the area of early childhood care and education, school education and adult education. Facilitators of literacy and education programmes for adults and children are strongly encouraged to enrol.
