The XV World Congress of Comparative Education Societies took place in Buenos Aires from 24–28 June 2013. Organized by the World Council of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES), an international NGO in operational relations with UNESCO, this was the largest Congress to date, with almost a thousand papers presented in 284 sessions. The opening session was addressed by UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education, Mr Qian Tang.
Mr Stephen Roche, Executive Editor of the International Review of Education (IRE), attended the Congress on behalf of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning. He participated in an open panel workshop for journal editors, discussing issues affecting scholarly journals, including ranking and impact factors, language policy, and open access. He explained the recent change in the language policy of the IRE and the steps that UIL has taken, in consultation with the Journal’s publisher, Springer, to ensure broader access to the IRE.
On the final day of the Congress, the General Assembly of the WCCES unanimously passed a resolution supporting the work of UNESCO.
